This website will provide you with information regarding his oil paintings. He works both as a solo artist and on assignment.

Biography

Joop Huisman was born in 1938 in the village Garderen (located in a region named "de Veluwe"). In the period between 1960-2001 he lived in Wageningen, Renswoude and Renkum. In 2001 he moved to Ruurlo (in a region named "de Achterhoek"). Although he was fascinated by art at an early age, because to studies and scientific carreer he started painting in 1991. At first he started by re-painting paintings from famous old Dutch painters to study and learn techniques. From 1996 to 2000 he has followed several art courses in Wageningen and Arnhem. After he moved to Ruurlo he took for four years classes at Gabriel Martinez in Enschede where he was mainly taught old techniques, used by famed traditional painters in landscape, still life and portrait. Gabriel Martinez is an international recognized painter and used to work at the Prado museum in Madrid where he spent most of his time restoring old paintings.
in addition he took three years classes at the profesional nature-painter Nico Bulder in Elspeet. He still takes workshops and master classes from various other painters to improve knowledge and painting techniques. He has a wide interest concerning subjects, such as animals, landscapes, portrait and still life. Emotions often decide the subjects of paintings. Sometimes it is the special light in morning- and evening skies or the coloured trees in autumn. But also animals in a landscape, people and objects for painting still lives.

Since 2006 he often paints subjects related to Africa. The reason is that during a journey in Africa he was very impressed by African nature, people and animals. Besides this, he came in contact with people active in the project KARIBU (see www.stichtingkaribu.nl) in which aid is given to the poorest people of Rwanda. He was so impressed by the aid given in this project that he decided to give all the income from sold paintings (exclusive costs of materials) to this project.

Joop Huisman has been awarded with the Silver Award 2009 from Art Majeur International for his work and the design of the website.
